Warming Huts, an arts and architecture competition that began in 2009, is an open competition supported by the Manitoba Association of Architects (MAA).
Nearing the end of January, competition winners travel to Winnipeg to begin construction on their warming hut. Warming huts will remain out until the end of the skating season.
This year’s six new Warming Huts brought creativity, colour, conversation, and community to the Nestaweya River Trail.
Artists and architects from Winnipeg and other countries, such as Scotland, Hong Kong, and the United States, are at The Forks, adding finishing touches on their projects, including Pom Pom, Prairie Castle, Prototype Home, ROSEMARY Skool, The Present, and Wrong Turn.
All six new huts are open to visitors.
Proposals for the competition were submitted online at www.warminghuts.com. Once entries are submitted, a blind jury selects designs that push the envelope of design, craft, and art.
