Manitoba Museum has revealed plans to revitalize its facility to enhance visitor experience and improve accessibility and safety.

The renovation will result in upgrades to the museum’s Rupert Avenue entrance, followed by a comprehensive reimagining of the museum’s visitor foyer.

The updated exterior will feature a newly designed and fully accessible entrance, sheltered by a canopy that will provide signage and have improved lighting. The 529 m2 (57,00 sf) museum’s visitor foyer will become a larger space.

The construction, executed by architecture and engineering firm Stantec, will be completed in multiple phases with a goal completion date in summer 2025. Previously, a simple, open span rectilinear volume was designed to resolve the previous height restrictions imposed by the original barrel vault roof. Now, the space accommodates a broader range of exhibition programming while maintaining geometry and vertical rhythm of the campus.

The project is funded jointly by the Manitoba Museum and a grant provided by the Manitoba government.
