In November, the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) held its CIPHEX West show in Vancouver, drawing a record number of 3200 industry professionals to the two-day event.

The show is the largest event in Western Canada for the plumbing, hydronics, HVACR, and water-treatment industries and takes place every two years. This year there were a total of 56 new products showcased amongst the hundreds of exhibitors.

The total attendance increase was up nine per cent from 2010. The rise in visitors is being partially attributed to the newly launched marketing and promotions approach using social media to attract industry members. Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube were used as promotional tools for the event and a live Twitter feed was broadcasted at the exhibition.

“We literally doubled our efforts and investment in this area—and the feedback from exhibitors and visitors has been excellent,” said CIPH’s Elizabeth McCullough.

Seminars and workshops were also offered during the two days that focused on various topics including:

  • hydronic heating systems for low-energy and net-zero houses;
  • rainwater-harvesting in British Columbia;
  • cost optimization and savings for integrated geothermal systems; and
  • sustainable applications and design velocities for water systems.

The next show will be held in Calgary on November 5–6, 2014.
