The signing of a groundbreaking construction contract for the new Etobicoke Civic Centre (ECC) project is set to reshape the ECC precinct in Toronto. Multiplex Canada has been named as the general contractor on the project, marking a significant milestone in the city’s urban development agenda.

Slated for 2024, the ECC project promises to reimagine the ECC Precinct at 3755 Bloor St. W. (formerly the Westwood Theatre Lands), spanning 44,779 m2 (482,000 sf). The project’s architecture features a juxtaposition of five public function buildings on the southern side, harmonizing with four towers of varying heights on the northern end. The ECC will be a hub of activity and connectivity, featuring a recreational centre and pool, essential services such as dental offices, non-profit childcare centres, government offices, as well as a public library.

Following Toronto’s sustainability objectives, the project embraces green building standards and energy-efficient infrastructure. Incorporating photovoltaic (PV) panels, green roofs, and intelligent building systems, the development aims to minimize its environmental footprint while contributing renewable energy to the surrounding area. Further, the project adheres to Toronto Accessibility Design Guidelines (TADG), ensuring inclusivity.
