Equinox Bridge, an upcoming pedestrian bridge connecting downtown Toronto to Villiers Island, has received a $9 million investment from the federal government through the Active Transportation Fund (ATF).

The new bridge design—to be built in the city’s Port Lands district—is characterized by a signature S-shaped suspended arch bridge connected by a sculptural array of fanning cables.

The bridge will be designed by a multi-disciplinary team, which will include UK-based WilkinsonEyre as the design architect, and Zeidler Architecture Inc. as the local architect, as well as Indigenous consultants Two Row Architect.

The firm’s design concept was selected by the project partners through a design competition.
