Waterworks, a hybrid, mixed-use space designed by Diamond Schmitt, has won a Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) National Award, as well as a 2023 Building Industry and Land Development (BILD) award.
Located in Toronto’s King West district, the design of Waterworks combines retail, a fully serviced YMCA, social facilities dedicated to health and wellness, a mid-rise condominium, affordable housing, and a youth shelter. The 12-storey project features three new building wings, glazed openings along the south facade, a new mid-block outdoor courtyard, a 25-m (82-ft) pool, and a gymnasium.
Waterworks was selected amongst 900 entries submitted this year at the CHBA National Awards and won in the Best Mid-to-High-rise Building category.
The condo site also won Best Community – Built category at the 2023 BILD awards for its use of a heritage site and integration in the surrounding neighbourhood.
Last year, the project was a receipt of a Heritage Toronto Award in the Adaptive Reuse category.
