The new sustainable student residence at Humber’s Lakeshore Campus in Toronto is Zero Carbon Building certified by the Canadian Green Building Council (CAGBC), aligning with the university’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions across all its campuses.

This new facility, designed by Diamond Schmitt and constructed by Ellis Don, is part of the first phase of the Humber Cultural Hub (HCH). The HCH sets new environmental and sustainable standards benchmarks, featuring mass timber construction sourced from renewable forests.

The building will not use natural gas, relying instead on geothermal, solar, and electricity for its energy needs. It will provide teaching and performance spaces, including a 500-seat performance hall, a 140-seat recital hall, and professional-quality music, film, TV, multimedia equipment, and training facilities.
