Toronto to host green homes summit

The Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC’s) Toronto Green Homes Summit will be held on Jan. 28 at Black Creek Pioneer Village.

The one-day, regionally focused educational sessions are geared to architects, designers, developers, builders, and anyone else involved in building ‘better-than-code’ housing. The summit will focus on residential construction, covering both single-family homes and multi-family projects up to 12 storeys.

There are five sessions discussing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) in Canada, regional energy, and green building standards. They include:

  • “The State of Home Building in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA),” by Brian Tuckley of BILD;
  • “Sustainability Metrics for Municipalities,” by Tony Iacobelli of the City of Vaughan;
  • “Size Doesn’t Matter: Innovative Trends in Micro- and Detached Homes,” by Andre D’Elia of superkūl, Mike Reynolds of EcoHome, Andrew Peel of Peel Passive House Consulting, and Glen MacMillan of Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA);
  • “Strategies to Achieve Sustainability in the Multi-Unit Residential Market,” by Subhi Alsayed of Tridel and Terrance Van Elslander of Van Elslander and Associates Architects; and
  • “Environmental Engagement and Sustainable Urban Planning in Communities,” by Jeff Taylor of Mytteat and Alex Speigel of Windmill Development Group.
