Northcrest Developments, lead developer on the project, is calling on artists, creatives, programmers, and event producers to help transform Downsview Airport Lands in Toronto through cultural events and installations.
In “Beyond the Tarmac: Open Call for Submissions,” Northcrest is offering up to $100,000 in funds to help reimagine the taxiway, 600 m (1,968 ft) of tarmac, leading to the 2 km (1.24 miles) runway, surrounded by airplane hangars. For this, they are offering funding for one or multiple projects, with a total budget of up to $100,000.
“We’re looking for ideas that are imaginative, engaging, visually-striking, and barrier-free, which will bring people together and build on our vision of creating a new cultural destination in Toronto,” says Mitchell Marcus, executive director of site activation and programming, Northcrest.
Beyond the Tarmac is the latest in a series of onsite artistic, cultural, and community initiatives the developer has led in the past two years. The deadline for submission is June 20.
