A presentation on “Mass Timber Framing and the Building Code” by Andrew Harmsworth (GHL Consultants) will be conducted during a CSC Vancouver Chapter[1] meeting on April 12, held at Sandman Hotel[2] from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Harmsworth is the engineer responsible for the fire safety design for both the Brock Commons[3] Tallwood House at University of British Columbia (UBC), an 18-storey mass timber building, and for Terrace House[4], a 19-storey residential building in the city’s Coal Harbour neighbourhood, which employs exposed mass timber in the upper seven storeys.
Harmsworth will describe the approach to assessing and demonstrating that each of these buildings provides the level of safety required by current building codes. He will also address upcoming tall wood projects based on the 2020 National Building Code (NBC) approach.
The deadline for registration is April 11. To register, click here[5].
