Canadian LEED growth continues for 2014

The number of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified buildings in Canada is continuing to rise throughout this year, reports Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC).

In the second quarter of 2014, between April 1 and June 30, there were 124 registrations and 109 certifications. These certifications bring the Canadian total to 1756 buildings.

Allied Technical Services (ATS) and Zoeller Canada, a subsidiary of a global pump manufacturer, have announced a new partnership.

ATS Spec is a plumbing specification information system for registered users, and now Zoeller products will be available to registered engineers, architects, and designers. This will include pumps and package systems for wastewater and potable water applications.

Canadian building permits on the rise

The latest data from Statistics Canada documents the overall rise in the value of building permits across the country, compared to this time last year.

Overall, municipalities issued permits totaling $6.9 billion in May 2014—a 13.8 per cent increase from the previous month. This increase is following an upward trend from the beginning of the year. Specifically in May, the rise is being attributed to more commercial construction projects in Ontario and Manitoba, along with increasing multi-family dwellings in British Columbia.
