Québec welcomes country’s second LEED Platinum home

L’Heure Bleue in Charlevoix, Que., is the second home in Canada to achieve Platinum status under Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC’s) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Guided by Québec LEED organization Écohabitation, indoor and outdoor construction of the project focused on ecological awareness, sustainable materials, and environmental management.

Canadian projects among tall building finalists

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s (CTBUH’s) Tall + Urban Innovation Conference will take place at Chicago’s Aqua Tower from May 30 to 31. The annual symposium explores and celebrates the best in innovative buildings, urban spaces, building technologies, and construction practices from around the world. The two-day conference will include an awards banquet to announce the recipients of the CTBUH Annual Awards. The event will also feature presentations by this year’s finalists, which includes two Canadian projects.

Québec firm takes top tech honours at ASHRAE awards

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) distributed its annual awards during the 2018 Winter Conference in Chicago. The Technology Awards celebrate society members who have successfully applied innovative building designs incorporating ASHRAE standards for effective energy management and indoor air quality (IAQ) and also serve to communicate innovative first systems design.

Canada ranks second in global LEED rankings

The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) announced that Canada has maintained its second-place position in the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC’s) ranking of the world’s top 10 countries for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. The list only ranks countries outside of the United States, which remains the global leader with 385.65 m2 (4151 sf) of LEED-certified space and 30,669 LEED-certified projects.

The declaration—developed and published by CCPPA and its members as well as verified by a third-party—reveals the potential environmental impact of concrete-based infrastructure products.

Winnipeg school wins Greenest School award

Amber Trails Community School in Winnipeg has won the annual Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC’s) Greenest School in Canada competition. The 7246-m2 (78,000-sf) building acts not just as a school, but also as an open and accessible hub within the community. The school was certified as Platinum under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program in 2016. Earlier this year, it won CaGBC’s Excellence in Green Building for New Construction (NC) award.
