Construction has begun on Carleton University’s all-new Engineering Design Centre, Ottawa, Ont., for its Faculty of Engineering and Design (FED). The $16-million, 2323-m2 (25,000-sf) facility will connect to Carleton’s existing Mackenzie Building and provide dedicated space for undergraduate students as they collaborate on fourth-year capstone design projects.

Plans have been revealed for the new Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada joint facility designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects and KWC Architects, which will rise on a prominent site in Ottawa.

For the third year in a row, Diamond Schmitt Architects will be recognized with a Civic Trust Award in 2020. Europe’s longest-running awards program for the built environment selected the Senate of Canada Building in Ottawa for demonstrating excellence in architecture, sustainability, inclusiveness, and universal design. Sharing the honour is KWC Architects of Ottawa.
