Governor General’s Medals in Architecture announced

The biennial Governor General’s Medals in Architecture celebrate outstanding design in recently completed projects by Canadian architects. The jury considers elements such as conceptual clarity, compatibility with the site, detailing, innovation and uniqueness, and sustainable design. They are jointly awarded by The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Architectural excellence celebrated at AIBC awards

Thirteen projects have been honoured with the 2018 Architectural Awards by the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC). The winning structures, from a hot water boiler facility at the University of British Columbia to a community centre, are spread across the province. However, AIBC says one theme connected all of the projects—the ability to enrich the communities in which they are situated and elevate the built environment.

Toronto library wins AIA environmental award

The Albion District Library in Toronto has won Perkins+Will a spot in the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment (COTE) Top Ten Awards. Located in the Rexdale neighbourhood at the northwest edge of the city, the 2694-m2 (29,000-sf) library is a critical social resource for a diverse, high-needs community.
