Five Ontario buildings have been selected by MasonryWorx as the best contemporary masonry buildings in the province. Projects are chosen based on uniqueness, trendsetting use of masonry products, and how they demonstrate what brick or concrete blocks can achieve.
Pomerleau, a general contracting firm based in Québec, took two categories in the Canada Building Information Modelling (CanBIM) Council’s first-ever national awards. The award program has three categories: innovation, interoperability, and best in BIM. Pomerleau earned top honours in the innovation category for Place Bell, a sports centre in Laval, as well as the best in BIM category for the Videotron Centre in Québec City.
Wangjing Soho in Beijing was selected the winner of the 2014 Emporis Skyscraper award and is the first Chinese tower to earn this honour. An international panel of experts chose Wangjing out of more than 300 skyscrapers of at least 100 m (328 ft) in height completed in 2014.
The Ontario Home Builders Association (OHBA) honoured residential real estate projects in 39 categories with awards of distinction. The winning projects were chosen based on innovation and excellence in areas such as architectural design and sales and marketing. All submissions had to be for sale between June 23, 2014 and June 22, 2015.
The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) has recognized Peter Birkemoe with a Lifetime Achievement Award for making a difference in the structural steel industry. Birkemoe, who teaches at the University of Toronto (U of T) in the Department of Civil Engineering, is both a researcher and authority on bolted and welded connections.
