In anticipation of its 25th anniversary celebration in February 2024, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) has unveiled a $350-million investment plan for the Scotiabank Arena Venue Reimagination project.
This multiphase makeover aims to transform the venue into a top-tier sports and entertainment destination, introducing cutting-edge technologies and enhancing various areas within the arena.
The project is being completed in collaboration with Brisbin Brook Beynon (BBB) Architects, DesignAgency, owner’s representative firm, CAA ICON, and PCL Construction. BBB Architects and PCL Construction originally led the design and construction of the venue which opened in February 1999.
This summer witnessed the completion of the first phase of the project, featuring a complete floor-to-ceiling revamp of the Mastercard Executive Suites Level (200 level), with new high-end finishes, stone accents, enhanced in-suite technology, convertible accessible seating, and vaulted ceilings to expand the viewing area of the bowl, as well as a technological facelift of the concourses.
The highlights include the Mastercard Lounge, a shared members’ space offering a premium viewing and dining experience. The Mastercard Lounge integrates innovative technologies and a daily menu crafted by Michelin Star-trained chefs.
The 100-level concourse is set for a complete overhaul in 2024, promising a fan-friendly design with dynamic screens and modernized grab-and-go style markets. The project also includes an expansion of Real Sports Apparel, a refreshed Hot Stove restaurant, and the introduction of an all-new Tunnel Club on the event level, providing an exclusive view of players entering the bowl from the locker room.
MLSE aims to make Scotiabank Arena a hub for arts and culture, curating a unique museum-quality art collection throughout the venue. In collaboration with Sports & The Arts (SATA), the project has already added 76 commissioned art pieces by 34 diverse artists, showcasing a rich tapestry of Canada’s history, sports, and music.
As the project progresses, future enhancements include a redesign of the 300 Level concourse, dedicated artist and talent spaces, and additional improvements which will be revealed later.
“From concourse innovations to premium space design, to the storied art on our walls, it was crucial to us to ensure this Scotiabank Arena Venue Reimagination featured improvements that all fans can benefit from,” says Nick Eaves, chief venues and operations officer, MLSE. “Beginning with the momentum from the renovations made this past summer, we look forward to unveiling to fans the best-in-class design, technology, and overall atmosphere enhancements over the course of this multiphased project that take our fans’ sports and entertainment experience to even greater heights.”
