Winnipeg’s annual road construction season is now underway, with $138.3 million budgeted for improvements to local and regional streets in 2024.
An additional $7.2 million has been dedicated solely to new active transportation infrastructure.
Work will be done on nearly 150 km (93.20 miles) of road, bridge, and active transportation infrastructure over the coming months.
The City of Winnipeg will also continue the rehabilitation work on the St. Vital Bridge and start rehabilitating the Pembina Highway Bridges over the La Salle River. Construction of a new bridge on Creek Bend Road over the Seine River and repairs on the Main/Norwood bridges is also currently in progress.
This year will also see an influx of active transportation infrastructure constructed around the city. These include construction of new separated bike lanes, extensions on multi-use pathways, and new neighbourhood greenways.
