Acrow, an international bridge engineering and supply company, recently designed and supplied a modular steel bridge in Kingston, Ont.
The bridge was constructed to maintain vehicular traffic and enable marine vessel access following the demolition of a bascule bridge at the LaSalle Causeway.
The design and durability of the modular steel bridge allows for its periodic removal and reinstallation to open the navigation channel.
The single-span structure is 49-m (160-ft) long and has a two-lane width of 7.3 m (23.9 ft). A 1.5-m (4.9-ft) wide cantilevered footwalk separates pedestrians from vehicular traffic.
The modular bridge opened to traffic in October.
Acrow has been in the transportation and construction industries for more than 70 years with a wide range of modular steel bridging solutions for permanent, temporary, military, and emergency use.
