Quebec-based engineering consulting firm Norda Stelo Inc. has acquired Vancouver-based CWA Engineers Inc., backed by Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ).
This collaboration marks a synergy between Norda Stelo’s automation and infrastructure design legacy and CWA’s expertise in bulk material handling, poised to redefine global engineering excellence with a focus on “site-to-port” operations.
This partnership enhances Norda Stelo’s strengths in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and asset management, combining with CWA’s established solutions for diverse terminal configurations. Together, they aim to shape an integrated strategy spanning resource extraction to global distribution, becoming leaders in smart “site-to-port” operations.
Alex Brisson, Norda Stelo’s president and CEO, envisions global leadership, particularly in the ports, mining, rail, construction aggregates, and wood product industries. The collaboration, he notes, expands service offerings, strengthens client partnerships, and opens avenues for significant projects nationally and internationally.
The new entity leverages the combined proficiency of both companies in brownfield engineering, asset management, and asset integrity, positioning itself as a trailblazer in addressing diverse operational needs. Notably, Norda Stelo, already a B-Corp certified firm, introduces the proprietary asset data management platform, STELAR, through the acquisition enhancing infrastructure protection and optimization capabilities.
“Our new combined entity is as complementary as it is revolutionary for our companies,” says CWA’s CEO, Raymond Chu. “We are facilitating meaningful transformation together. We are able to realize our vision of expanding into new, foreign markets and ensure a lasting legacy for both the company and its people through exciting career opportunities. We are also cementing our growth strategy and vision to consolidate our value proposition and not only expand our reach from coast-to-coast, but also enhance the company’s offering in the mining and ports sectors globally.”
Post-transition, Norda Stelo will operate with over 100 additional professionals, maintaining leadership continuity and locations. Chu will assume the role of vice-president, Western Canada and U.S., setting the stage for continued growth.
