The Ontario government is investing $3.5 million in Element5, a manufacturer of cross-laminated timber (CLT), to help the mass timber manufacturer expand its operations.
This funding will more than triple the company’s production, creating 32 new jobs, increasing revenue by over 300 per cent, and boosting export sales by nearly 600 per cent.
One of Element5’s notable projects in the country is its 12,077 m2 (130,000 sf) St. Thomas facility, considered one of North America’s most technologically advanced mass timber plants.
The Ontario government has also released an action plan called the Advanced Wood Construction Action Plan to expand wood construction in the province.
Advanced wood construction assembles building materials off-site before installation, reducing on-site disruption, completing projects up to 50 per cent faster, and reducing costs by up to 20 per cent. It also offers environmental benefits, such as using wood as a sustainable alternative to traditional building materials while supporting the forestry sector.
