The Women in Concrete Alliance (WICA) is calling for nominees for its third annual Woman of Distinction Award.

The North American organization aims to connect women in the industry and provide a networking community, mentoring, and resources. The award’s recipient will reflect the organization’s values and is chosen by industry peers.

WICA was co-founded by Kari Moosman and Kimberly Kayler with an idea sparked by Hanley Wood’s Women in Concrete (WIC) event at World of Concrete.

“As women in the concrete industry, we know there is tremendous opportunity for jobs in our market,” Kayler toldConstruction Canada Online. “However, there are barriers to women entering the trades.”

According to Kayler, some of the boundaries women in the industry face are a lack of information about opportunities and a difficult work culture.

“WICA hopes to help address these challenges and bridge the gap, providing opportunity for women,” she said.

Nominations can be submitted online until December 31 at www.womeninconcrete.org. Once all entries are received, votes can be given on the website. The award will be presented at the World of Concrete exhibit on February 6 in Las Vegas, Nev.
