People in Richmond and surrounding areas are one step closer to a new acute-care tower as Vancouver Coastal Health has selected the preferred proponent for phase two of the Richmond Hospital redevelopment project. The chosen team is Graham Design Builders LP and HDR Architecture Associates, Inc.

With the completion of the RFP process, the team will begin an alliance-development phase.

The redevelopment includes the construction of the nine-floor acute-care tower, the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, featuring 113 hospital beds, upgraded equipment, an expanded emergency department, additional operating rooms, an intensive care unit, a state-of-the-art medical imaging department (including three new CT scanners and an MRI), a pharmacy, and short-stay pediatrics.

The total cost of the four phases of the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment project is estimated to be $1.96 billion.

These upgrades are essential to meet the acute care needs of Richmond’s growing and aging population while ensuring the facility is earthquake-safe and built above the flood plain.

Phase two construction of the new Yurkovich Family Pavilion is expected to start in 2026 and be completed by 2029.

The total cost of the four phases of the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment project is estimated to be $1.96 billion, with contributions from the provincial government ($1.89 billion), Vancouver Coastal Health ($30 million), and the Richmond Hospital Foundation ($40 million).
