A major redevelopment has taken place in a section of Montreal’s Olympic Park, as part of a project to bring together its administrative and logistical departments and transform the area into a collaborative, dynamic workspace.
Situated along the perimeter of the Olympic Stadium, the 2,136 m2 (23,000 sf) project— led by Montreal-based architecture and design firm, Lemay, and lighting agency, LumiGroup—incorporates cooperative workspaces, several common areas, conference rooms, and soundproof booths enabling a more private working environment.
A prominent design component includes numerous light fixtures incorporated throughout the offices. The lighting design is dependent on the nature of the space: rounded fixtures enhance collaborative spaces, while straight fixtures dominate concentrated areas such as the acoustic booths. To reduce waste and costs, old lighting fixtures were relocated to less visible, private spaces. “At first glance, it was obvious that lighting would play a crucial role in the success of this project; the design of radial lighting emphasized the architecture of the place and its lighting,” says Ramzi Bosha, an architect at Lemay.
Additional project design aspects include refurbished concrete floors, a curtain wall, mirrors, and wood paneling. The main office space is divided into sections for human resources, construction, and legal and financial services—complete with colour branding which correspond with the shades of the Olympic rings.
