Montréal Chapter presents on low slope roofs

CSC Montréal[1] is holding a webinar on “The impact of climate change: The design of low slope roofs” on Wednesday, March 17, from 8 to 9:15 a.m. via Zoom.

Jean-François Côté will be speaking at the event. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Sherbrooke and a doctorate in energy and materials sciences from the National Institute for Scientific Research (INRS).

In 2018, the federal government gave the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) a mandate to integrate climate change considerations into the design of Canadian buildings. Several working groups have thus been created to identify ways to make buildings more resilient and adapted to more severe climatic events. The Low Slope Roofing Working Group contributed to the development of the new Canadian Standards Association (CSA) A123.26, Performance Requirements for Climate Resilience of Low Slope Membrane Roofing Systems. This contains the requirements applicable to the design of low slope roofs when it is desired that a building achieve higher performance levels (silver or gold levels) than those imposed by building codes (bronze level). The designer who chooses to adhere to CSA A123.26 will use the weather forecast for wind and rain combined with the performance level assigned to the building to determine what additional measures need to be incorporated into the roof construction specification. These metrics will be reviewed in the presentation.

Recorded broadcasts will be available on Thursday, March 18, from 4 to 5:15 p.m. and Monday March 22, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The event is free.
