Plans for what will be Winnipeg’s tallest building have been released by Ontario-based property developers.

LiveWorkPlay Winnipeg will be located on a building site currently housing a parking lot in the city’s downtown core. The mixed-use project’s design will reach up to 40 storeys and include more than 300 residential units, office, and retail space.

The expected 69,677-m2 (750,000-sf) building is being designed by Kirkor Architects and Planners. Additional elements will include:

  • retail/commercial space at the ground level;
  • access to transit;
  • underground and aboveground parking; and
  • large-format grocery store on the second floor.

The project is located within walking distance of entertainment, sporting, and hospitality attractions. It is being aimed at those who work in the city and live outside.

Construction is scheduled to start before May 2016, with a completion date set for June 2017. When complete, the tower will become the tallest structure between Toronto and Calgary.
