Last month, the annual IIDEX/NeoCon Canada show took place at Toronto’s Direct Energy Centre, bringing together interior designers, owners, and architects. The two-day exhibition hosted 350 exhibitors, 180 seminar speakers, nine keynote speakers, and even a chair hockey tournament.
This year’s exhibition had Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) joined by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (Architecture Canada/RAIC) as co-presenters for the first time. As a result of this new partnership, more architects attended.
“The addition of Architecture Canada/RAIC as co-presenters of the show increased attendance from the architectural community plus attracted a broader and more diverse range of exhibitors,” IIDEX’s director of marketing, Matthew Searle, told Construction Canada Online.
The architectural keynote panel discussion featured Janna Levitt (Levitt Goodman Architects), Michael Murphy (MASS Design Group), and Liz Ogbu (former innovator-in-Residence at IDEO.org and design director at Public Architecture).
Exhibits featured products in all areas of design and architecture, from workplaces to healthcare facilities. Among the multiple awards distributed, theIIDEX Canada Innovation Awards were presented to exhibitors for booths and products.
The second annual chair hockey tournament saw teams of designers, architects, and manufacturers face-off in ergonomic office chairs for charity. All proceeds raised went to Helmets to Hardhats—an organization connecting war veterans to careers in the construction industry—and the IDC Foundation, which provides scholarships and grants for interior design education programs.
IIDEX Canada 2013 will take place on September 26 and 27 at the Direct Energy Centre.
