Honouring the best in Ontario landscape design

Last week, the Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association[2] (LOHTA) announced the winners of its 45th annual Awards of Excellence[3] at an event in Toronto. Judges presented nearly 300 landscape construction, maintenance, and design awards to projects based on qualities such as originality, innovation, and effectiveness of design.
Winners for this year’s multiresidential and industrial commercial construction in the $50,000 to $100,000 range were:
- Garden Grove Landscaping[4]; and
- Wentworth Landscapes[5] (project designed by Tara Galpin).
In the same category, but in the $100,000 to $250,000 range, winners were:
- Tarrascape Innovation (project designed by Alexander Budrevic of Alexander Budrevic & Associates[6]);
- Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds[7] (project designed by Jordan Vander Klok); and
- Land-Con[8], receiving two awards in this category (with one project designed by Taylor Fifield).
[9]Finally, in the same category, but in the range exceeding $250,000, winners were:
- Oakridge Landscape Contractors[10] (project designed by Christopher Baker);
- CSL Group[11] (project designed by Jeremy Craig of Victor Ford & Associates[12]);
- CSL Group (project designed by Mark Zuzinjak of GSP Group[13]);
- Aden Earthworks[14];
- Garden Grove Landscaping (project designed by City of Kitchener);
- Rutherford Contracting[15] (project designed by Mark Schollen of Schollen and Company[16]);
- Wentworth Landscapes (project designed by Tara Galpin); and
- Shademaster Landscaping[17] (project designed by Richard Kuizenga).
Wentworth Landscapes was the sole winner in this year’s Theme Gardens category, recognized for a design by Scott Wentworth.
