A recent report published by TrustedPros, a nation-wide contractor review website, states that 70 per cent of surveyed Canadian contractors do not think homeowners do enough research prior to hiring home renovation professionals.

This suggested research includes viewing and/or vetting a contractor’s trade licence, business licence, Workers’ Compensation Insurance (WCI), and liability insurance.

Sixty per cent of respondents stated that between zero and five per cent of their clients ask to see this information. Only five per cent of the respondents stated clients always requested this information.

The data raises concerns that homeowners may inadvertently hire unlicensed building professionals to complete home renovations, resulting in unnecessary costly repairs.
