A consortium led by EllisDon and PCL Constructors Canada has recently entered into a development phase agreement (DPA) with Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Trillium Health Partners (THP) for The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital project.
The consortium, called ED+PCL Healthcare Partners, includes:
The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital project is a progressive public-private partnership, which encourages collaborative development of project requirements, design, pricing, schedule, and risk management. ED+PCL Healthcare Partners will work with IO and THP, along with the ministry of health, under the DPA to advance the project. After completing the development phase, ED+PCL Healthcare Partners are expected to enter a fixed-price agreement with THP to design, build, finance, and maintain the project.
The new hospital, which is set to replace the existing Mississauga Hospital, will feature modern hospital facilities and technology that comply with the latest standards in infection prevention and control. It will encompass 260,129 m2 (2.8 million sf), spanning across 24 floors, almost triple the size of the existing hospital. It will house more than 950 beds, with an increase in operating rooms from 14 to 23. In addition, more than 80 per cent of the rooms will be private, with an expanded emergency department to provide patients with an enhanced experience and shorter wait times. Thee expanded emergency department is expected to be one of the largest in the province.
The project will also include advanced diagnostic imaging facilities, a new pharmacy, and a clinical laboratory. The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital will allow THP to better respond to future healthcare challenges.
The hospital is a vital component of THP’s vision for establishing an innovative health care system and revamping the entire health-focused urban center in that area.
“ED+PCL Healthcare Partners, as well as all of our consortium partners are proud and excited to enter into the DPA phase for The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital,” says Joey Comeau, executive vice-president and chief operating officer, EllisDon Capital. “We are committed to working collaboratively with our partners to deliver a hospital that is innovative and responsive to the evolving needs of the surrounding communities.”
