Global design practice Gensler[2]’s Toronto office has appointed Steven Paynter, OAA, ARB, as the new principal, and Matthew Kobylar, IIDA, as design director.
Having joined the firm five years ago, Paynter’s leadership has been instrumental in Gensler’s continued growth, the firm said. He oversees a studio of more than 40 architects and designers with responsibility for large-scale master planning and complex adaptive reuse and repositioning projects, and new, ground-up buildings.
“We are delighted to recognize the hard work and talent of our newest principal, Steven,” said Eric Ginsburg, managing director in Toronto. “He is widely acknowledged as an expert in his field and is considered an invaluable strategic partner to all of his clients. He brings a wealth of experience, market knowledge, and design know-how to the table.”
Kobylar re-joins Gensler as design director after a stint in London at an international firm. Sought after for his experience in leading strategic office transformations across the legal and professional services sectors, Kobylar has earned a reputation for delivering world-class workplaces, the firm said. In this role, he will work alongside principal and design director, Annie Bergeron, who is known for her expertise with tech and media companies.
“We are thrilled to welcome Matthew back to Gensler,” said Filo Costa, co-managing principal in Gensler’s Toronto office. “His ability to weave strategy with award-winning design has resulted in workplaces that really move the needle for a wide range of organizations. His skills will be a great asset as we continue to explore the best ways to serve our clients.”
