The Centre for Skilled Trades at Georgian College’s Barrie campus is undergoing an expansion and transformation. This is to help sustain and grow the skilled trades workforce the Simcoe region needs for a strong, sustainable, and green future.

The expansion, designed by Diamond Schmitt, will modernize the existing building and add approximately 1,858 m2 (20,000 sf) of space. Its features support the development of a future-ready skilled trades workforce in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced digital technologies.

Some features of the expansion include a new lab for heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning, significant renovations to the existing lab for carpentry and machining programs, upgrades to carpentry and machining labs, and energy-efficient designs.

This initiative aligns with the County of Simcoe’s regional economic development strategies, which aim to strengthen the skilled trades sector and address workforce demands.
