Energy-efficient residential builders awarded in Ontario

EnerQuality has presented its 2012 Awards of Excellence to green building leaders in Ontario.

The organization, founded as a partnership between Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance (CEEA) and the Ontario Home Builders’ Association (OHBA), distributes the annual awards to recognize companies contributing to its goal of making energy-efficient, sustainable housing in the province.

The award categories include Ontario Green Builder of the Year, Best Green Marketing Campaign, and EnergyStar for New Homes Champion of the Year.

The winners are:

  • Stephen Dupuis (Hall of Fame);
  • Empire Communities (Building Innovation & Excellence);
  • Doug Tarry Homes (EnergyStar for New Homes Builder of the Year–Mid to Small Volume);
  • Steve Snider Construction (EnerQuality’s R-2000 Builder of the Year);
  • Gary Botelho (EnergyStar for New Homes Champion of the Year);
  • The Minto Group (Leader of the Year and Ontario Green Builder of the Year);
  • John Harris (Evaluator of the Year); and
  • Owens Corning Canada (Industry Partner of the Year).

North American builder and developer, Minto Group, was honoured with Ontario Green Builder of the Year and Leader of the Year awards for the second year running.

“For Minto, these awards are a chance to showcase our longstanding commitment to delivering high-quality homes with a reduced impact on the environment,” the company’s vice-president of sustainability, Alison Minato, toldConstruction Canada Online. “For the industry, Enerquality’s awards program shines a light on the importance of pursuing more sustainable building practices, and honors and encourages those who are raising the bar in the home energy performance.”

All of Minto’s current projects in Ontario are pursuing EnergyStar and/or Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification, and incorporate various sustainable features such as electric-vehicle-charging infrastructure.
