For the fifth year in a row, Diamond Schmitt Architects has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers (SME), a program honouring the nation’s best workplaces and forward-thinking human resources policies.

This editorial competition is managed by Mediacorp Canada in conjunction with The Globe and Mail. They review thousands of applications from private-sector companies with less than 500 employees and rate recruitment histories, HR practices, and employee benefits and perks.

For 2018, the SME jury cited Diamond Schmitt’s policies of reaching out to the next generation through apprentice programs, co-op opportunities, and paid internships.

“These employers offer fun, interesting, engaged workplaces where you can still get benefits like good maternity top-up or a decent retirement savings plan,” said Richard Yerema, managing editor of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. “It is an attractive combination for employees looking for the best of both worlds.”

Winning companies are graded on eight areas:

  • physical workplace;
  • work atmosphere and social programs;
  • health, financial, and family benefits;
  • vacation and time off;
  • employee communications;
  • performance management;
  • training and skills development; and
  • community involvement.
