The Edmonton Chapter[1] will have a breakfast meeting on September 15 at Chateau Louis Hotel & Conference Centre[2] from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Leszek Kowalski will be presenting on “Mitigating Risk and Elevating Concrete Aesthetics.”

The presentation will look at a standard polished concrete specification and rebuild it from the ground up focusing on an inspection and construction perspective. Kowalski will discuss the specifications that need to be changed to ensure the design vision matches the outcome.

The presentation will also go over the technical side of polished concrete— such as how critical chemical hardening/densifying is to the polished concrete install—so all parties have a better understanding of the processes.

The last part of the presentation will focus on the design vision versus managing expectations.

Kowalski is a polished concrete risk management consultant with more than 16 years of experience. Some of his major projects include the Olympic Village in Vancouver, the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, and Rogers Place Arena, Edmonton.
