Canadian condominium builder, Tridel, received several awards at the 2023 Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) Awards, including Green Builder of the Year for a record 14th time.
Tridel’s waterfront community, Harbourwalk at Lakeview Village, also nabbed BILD’s coveted People’s Choice Award and Best High-rise Building Design. Designed by architectsAlliance, Harbourwalk is a sculpted pair of buildings joined by a sprawling 5,295-m2 (57,000-sf) courtyard adorned with spacious, cascading terraces offering unimpeded views of Lake Ontario. The buildings feature a pair of raised and lowered peaks in opposing corners, with permeable public access to select portions of the courtyard.
Established in 1980, the BILD recognizes excellence in all aspects of the development process, from construction and design, to sales and marketing.
Tridel continues to set benchmarks in sustainability, bringing home multiple awards, including a win for Best Customer Care, for their dedication to building high-quality, environmentally responsible condominium homes.
Tridel’s unwavering commitment to eco-friendly building practices and social impact has been at the forefront of the company’s philosophy since 2003, with the delivery of The Element, the company’s first community adhering to its Built Green Built for Life program.
According to the company’s website, its adherence to the program means: “A typical Tridel Built Green Built for Life building consumes, on average, 34% less electricity, 57% less natural gas and 43% less potable water than a model reference building. It also reduces greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 41%, with construction waste diversion of 83%.”
To date, Tridel has built over 2.3 million m2 (25 million sf) of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum-, gold-, and silver-certified and candidate buildings throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Currently, the Canadian developer is including low-carbon district energy solutions, leak-mitigation systems, air-tightness testing, urban agriculture, and robust electric vehicle charging stations, among other features in its communities, to improve building efficiency, performance, and resilience. Further, as part of its efforts to contribute to a low-carbon global economy, Tridel is pursuing a new decarbonization strategy, starting with a baseline carbon emissions study for its head office.
“Tridel has been a pioneer in the development industry for nearly 90 years; we recognized the potential in aligning our development interests with environmental responsibility early on. Highly efficient designed buildings are not only good for our environment, but also operate better economically by reducing the amount of energy required, in turn saving our homeowners money,” says Bruno Giancola, senior vice-president, Tridel. “We’re incredibly honoured that the hard work and dedication of our passionate team continues to be recognized by the industry, and we remain proud of the real, tangible impact being made in the communities where we build.”
