Firm awarded Prix de Rome for design culture discussion project

Winnipeg’s 5468796 Architecture has been awarded Canada Council for the Arts’ $50,000 Professional Prix de Rome in Architecture for its “Table for 12” project.

Administered by the Canada Council for the Arts, the award honours a young architectural firm’s achievements. It provides the winner with the ability to travel internationally and learn more about architectural practices in other countries.

Expanding Toronto transit to the airport

Construction is slated to begin next month on a transit expansion project linking Toronto’s Union Station to Pearson International Airport.

The Union Pearson Express (UP Express) will be completed in time for the 2015 Pan/Parapan Games, linking travellers to Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), GO transit, and VIA services through Union Station’s Skywalk.

Moderate housing starts predicted

Housing starts are expected to rise into the latter half of this year moving into 2014, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) reports.

Due to employment and economic growth, the forecast for building starts will increase compared to the beginning of 2013, but will be lower overall compared to last year.

Roxul joins forces with two roofing manufacturers

Stone wool insulation manufacturer, Roxul, has announced partnerships with two roofing product companies, expanding its North American offerings.

Carlisle Construction Materials (CCM) produces commercial roofing products, and will now incorporate stone wool roof insulation into its ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) and thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) membranes and warranty programs.
