The new 707 Fifth AAA office tower in downtown Calgary features a distinctive, curved glass appearance and creates a high energy-efficiency workspace with a triple-glazed, curved glass curtain wall system.
For its curtain wall, the 27-storey, 52,400-m2 (564,000-sf) building utilizes a state-of-the-art, bent, triple-pane insulated glazing units (IGUs) with two low-emissivity (low-e) coatings. The custom, high-performance, unitized, structurally glazed, aluminum-framed curtain wall system was engineered and manufactured for the tower.
Designed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM), the building’s façade combines convex and concave forms to shape elliptical and undulating elevations. The floor-to-ceiling glass maximizes internal daylighting, minimizes unwanted solar heat gain and loss, and provides panoramic views of the city and the Rocky Mountains.
Employees and visitors have nearby transit solutions and onsite amenities, retailers, and restaurants. The 9-m (30-ft) tall lobby and interconnected winter garden provide a year-round setting.
The project is targeting the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.
