École secondaire du Bosquet in Drummondville, Que., a collaborative project by ABCP, Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux, and Bilodeau Baril Leeming Architectes, is a new school in inspired by the surrounding woodland.
The materiality combines transparency and vertical texture, and natural light and energy from the forest are maximized through large windows.
On entering the school, the Biophilic Square, the signature space for this school connected to nature, has benches that constitute a public gathering space.
The windows in all the facades and the built-in sunscreen in the bronze-coloured aluminum panels match the woodland and resemble the dappled warm light that filters through the treetops.
Additionally, the school has 43 classrooms, six science labs, eight arts facilities, a 400-seat auditorium, five sports facilities, including a quadruple gymnasium, and numerous collaborative spaces.
The project is targeting LEED Silver certification.
