Winter Stations—a new international design competition focusing on re-imagining Toronto’s winter waterfront—is now accepting entries.
In the city’s east end, the waterfront space is well-used in the warmer months, but lacks appeal during the winter. This resulted in the firms RAW Design, Ferris + Associates, and Curio teaming up to create the competition open to artists, designers, architects, and landscape architects.
The challenge for participants is to design a temporary installation that will be anchored to the lifeguard stands left empty during the beach’s off-season. These installations must be able to withstand the winter weather.
The creations should coincide with the inaugural theme of “Warmth.” The installation can be any size, and winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. The winning displays will be featured on the beach between February 16 and March 20.
Submissions are due by December 5, and winners will be announced in the New Year. An opening party will be held on the beach to display the winners. Click here for more information.
