To promote certification opportunities for concrete professionals, nine North American associations have teamed up to establish the Concrete Industry Certification Consortium (CICC).
The organizations involved are:
• American Concrete Pumping Association (ACPA);
• American Shotcrete Association (ASA);
• Architectural Precast Association (APA);
• Concrete Foundations Association (CFA);
• Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association (CSDA);
• International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI);
• National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA);
• Post-tensioning Institute (PTI); and
• Tilt-up Concrete Association (TCA).
Together, these groups will encourage certification programs for concrete professionals. TCA’s James R. Baty II spoke to the international appeal of CICC.
“Industry certification is not impacted by country or region. The consortium is a central location for information about all forms of certification offered by the concrete industry and many, if not most, have a global scope or application,” Baty told Construction Canada Online.
CICC will focus on combining existing programs, rather than introducing new certifications to the industry. The involvement of international associations will result in more consistency in the programs.
“Certifications such as the CSDA Company Certification Program and the Certified Foundation Company Program offer valuable pre-qualification tools to governments, architects, engineers, owners, and general contractors for companies that are knowledgeable, quality and safety minded, and focused on the highest level of service,” said Baty. “These principles are applicable to all countries and regions where the companies are vested.”
