The Hamilton/Niagara Chapter is holding a Zoom meeting on “Seismic Ceiling Design” on Wednesday, January 20, from 2 to 3 p.m.
The presentation by Brian Dobbins, Dipl. Arch. Technology, CTR (representing CGC Inc.) will explain the necessary elements in the design of seismic ceiling systems dependent on seismic categories as outlined by ASTM E580, Standard Practice for Installation of Ceiling Suspension Systems for Acoustical Tile and Lay-in Panels in Areas Subject to Earthquake Ground Motions. The presentation will begin with a summary of non-structural earthquake damage to better understand the impact on life safety, property loss, and functional loss. Then it will move on to an explanation of the principals and practices of seismic suspended ceiling installation based on seismic categories C and D-E-F. Once the installation methods are discussed, the presentation will review documentation available for use as a reference in the design and construction of seismic suspended ceilings.
This is a structured learning event. Upon request, participation certificates will be made available for Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) learning credits.
The target audience is architects, specification writers, building consultants, building code professionals, engineers, building owners, property managers, general contractors, and sub trades. The cost is $15 per attendee.
