Normally Building Owners and Managers Association of the Greater Toronto Area (BOMA Toronto) hands out awards for sustainability but this time it was the recipient.
Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE) has recognized BOMA Toronto with this year’s “Associations Make a Better Canada” award.
The group was honoured for its Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) Program, which ran from 2007 to 2010 and saved on energy usage and cost for large commercial facilities in Toronto. The CDM Program was funded by Ontario Power Authority (OPA), which offers resources, tools, and incentives for building owners in regards to implementing energy sustainability.
The program developed by BOMA was the first of its kind in the country to bring savings directly to the consumer.
“One of BOMA Toronto’s goals is to actively promote energy conservation and sustainability, and with the CDM Program we were able to do this with great success,” BOMA Toronto’s Chris Conway said.
The program provided the groundwork for OPA’s saveONenergy Retrofit program currently under operation in Ontario.
