The Tilt-up Concrete Association (TCA) has presented its Alphonse J. Engelman Safety Award to Ottawa’s SiteCast Construction.
The international organization encourages the use of tilt-up building systems, and honours its members with awards in various categories.
This year, the company was Ottawa-based SiteCast Construction who was recognized in the “Best Tilt-Up Safety Achievement Award/Tilt-Up Contractors” category.
“SiteCast promotes safety through leadership and education. We invest in high-visible safety signage, safety clothing, and protective attire to keep our workers protected,” the company’s Mark Doll told Construction Canada Online. “As a tilt-up contractor, we are working with concrete panels that typically weigh 27,215 kg (60,000 lb), but can weigh up to 54,431 kg (120,000 lb)—our largest panel to-date. You have to be sharp when moving these around.”
Nova Scotia’s B. D. Stevens Limited was also honoured, taking home the Most Improved Safety Achievement Award.
Winners were voted on by registered TCA members and awards were presented at the organization’s annual convention which was held in Amelia Island, Fla.
