Calgary Chapter explores sustainable design

The Calgary Chapter will hold a dinner meeting on October 9 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Winston Golf and Country Club. Chris Bierschank, sustainability manager with Mapei Americas, will be presenting on “Sustainability Programs – how are they changing the design and built world?”

Flooring installation systems of today are not the same as a few years ago. Programs such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) v4, Living Building Challenge (LBC), and WELL building standard have challenged manufacturers and installers to re-think the entire floorcovering installation layering system. As “transparency” becomes the new norm for doing business, it requires all stakeholders to make informed decisions—based both on performance and product transparency.

As a LEED Green Associate and member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) National and Florida Chapters, the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), CSI, and CSC, Bierschank assists the architectural and design community to ensure products meet both performance and transparency requirements of a variety of sustainable design programs.
