Two North American product testing firms are combining their resources, and working together for onsite building envelope inspections.
Intertek, a global tester, evaluator, and certifier of building products and materials has teamed up with third-party quality-control (QC) consulting firm, Artruval Testing. The two entities will offer onsite building envelope and façade inspections, along with testing for due diligence and quality assurance (QA).
Tests will be conducted in relation to ASTM International and American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) air and water leakage resistance standards, in addition to applicable Canada and U.S. standards such as Canadian Standards Association (CAN/CSA)-A440.4, Field Testing of Window and Door Installations. Glazing and wall components, as well as air and water vapour barriers will be inspected as part of the available services.
Tests that will be used include:
- ASTM E331, Standard Test Method for Water Penetration of Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls by Uniform Static Air Pressure Difference;
- ASTM E783, Standard Test Method for Field Measurement of Air Leakage Through Installed Exterior Windows and Doors; and
- ASTM E2128, Standard Guide for Evaluating Water Leakage of Building Walls.
