Plans for the 58-storey Telus Sky building in Calgary’s downtown core were revealed last week.
Designed by Danish firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), in collaboration with Canada’s Dialog, the 69,680-m2 (750,029-sf), $400-million mixed-use structure will boast a smooth, glass façade morphing into 3-D upper levels housing residential apartments with balconies.
“The Telus Sky is an attempt to create a lively mixture of living and working at the intersection of lightrail and arterial roads in the heart of the centre, to help create a more varied and walkable city center for Calgary,” said BIG’s Bjarke Ingels.
Part of a city rejuvenation effort sparked by The Bow project, the tower is being constructed in place of the current Arts Central building and will include:
- 26 floors—39948 m2 (430,000 sf)—of office space;
- 1393-m2 (15,000-sf) retail space;
- top 32 floors of residential apartments; and
- 511-m2 (5500-sf) public art gallery.
Designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum standards, a vegetated roof, stormwater management, and energy-saving systems will be employed.

Construction is scheduled to begin next year, with completion expected for the fall of 2017.
