Explore BIM with CSC Vancouver

CSC’s Vancouver Chapter has scheduled a lunch meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, at Sandman Hotel. David Watson (Digicon), CET, FCSC, CSP, will present on “Specifications, BIM, and Preserving the Decision Process Throughout the Design Cycle.”

According to Watson’s talk, the construction industry is fragmented and inefficient. Research has shown there is a significant productivity gap when compared to other sectors of the economy because of badly co-ordinated project information, lack of collaboration, and a reluctance to adopt digital technologies. All of these can be avoided by enabling access to necessary information for all parties during all stages of the project.

In his presentation, Watson will explain how information could be structured to ensure there is clarity and transparency to decision-making and responsibilities. He will look at how information in different ‘information silos’ such as drawings, schedules, and specifications can be co-ordinated and accessed. Finally, he will explore how emerging digital technologies can disrupt the old methods and enable the industry to improve productivity and collaboration across a project team.
