On Thursday, September 22, CSC’s Vancouver Island Chapter is hosting a luncheon discussion on below-grade waterproofing.
The ultimate goal of waterproofing is to end up with a finished structure that is to remain dry for the lifetime of the building. While protecting structures from water ingress and subsequent structural or interior deterioration seems relatively simple, things become more challenging when jobsite realities come into play.
The interaction of several sub-trades co-ordinating around tight schedules, along with design and documentation factors, may result in installation issues that could develop into water ingress. Standard warranties provide a remedy in case of material failure, but do not protect against complex scenarios typical of large construction projects. Accountability issues may arise between the installer and manufacturer if such problems are not recorded, reported, and covered under a program that identifies and rectifies actionable items.
Jim Arnall and Philippe Henry of Engineered Site Products will describe and compare several waterproofing warranties and bring awareness of some of their limitations. The event kicks off at the Fireside Grill at 11:30 a.m., and is expected to conclude by 1:15 p.m. Registered AIBC members will receive one Learning Unit (LU) for attending.
