The Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) honoured 12 projects and one firm with awards during its annual conference on May 18.
Winning projects reflect significant contributions in the area of green building and excellence in other areas of design. Two projects received the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Award in Architecture—medal:
- Telus Garden by Henniquez Partners Architects; and
- Guildford Aquatic Centre by Bing Thom Architects, in joint venture with Shape Architecture.
There were also seven merit winners for the award:
- York House Senior School by Acton Osler Architects;
- Centennial College Ashtonbee Campus student hub;
- MNP Tower by Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership, in association with Kohn Pederson Fox;
- Rough House by Measured Architecture;
- Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre by HCMA Architecture and Design;
- Jasper Place Library by HCMA Architecture and Design, in joint venture with Dub Architects; and
- Fort McMurray Airport International Terminal by McFarlane Biggar Architects and Designers.
The Surrey Operations Centre, designed by Taylor Kurtz Architecture and Design and Rounthwaite, Dick and Hadley Architects, won the AIBC Innovation Award. Marianne Amodio Architecture Studio received the AIBC Emerging Firm Award, and Shaughnessy House by Measured Architects and 2211 Canbie by Arno Matis Architure and Azurean Architecture won special jury awards.
