West coast projects earn illumination honours

Two Canadian projects received Special Citations at the 2013 Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) awards.

The organization annually presents four Awards of Distinction, 18 Awards of Excellence, and seven Special Citations in the following categories:

  • Control Innovation;
  • Energy and Environmental Design;
  • Paul Waterbury Award for Outdoor Lighting Design;
  • Edwin F. Guth Memorial Award for Interior Lighting Design; and
  • Aileen Page Cutler Memorial Award for Lighting Design.

Winners are selected by a jury panel of industry experts and entries are evaluated according to program criteria.

The restoration of University of British Colom bia’s (UBC’s) Ladner Clock Tower earned designers Lorne Whitehead, Michele Mossman, and Andrew Strang a Special Citation honour in the Paul Waterbury Award for Outdoor Lighting Design category. The Scarlett Residence project, also in Vancouver, received the same recognition in the Aileen Page Cutler Memorial Award for Lighting Design category.
